About AOC Philosophy and Training Beliefs – Why You Should Train Like a Pro
Everyone’s an athlete, baby, that’s the truth!
Seriously now, everyone? Yep. Whether you are a mover and a shaker or a couch surfer, our philosophy is grounded in the belief that every single one of us has the potential to be an athlete.
All movement stems from the core. You hear a lot of about “core” these days; it seems to be couched around every fad. But the fact is that we cannot move correctly, or like an athlete, without proper strengthening and conditioning of our core muscles.
Modern life really puts us in a position that deconditions our core and limits our potential. So many of us spend our days commuting to work slouched in the car or on transit, working hunched over a desk and then hours couch surfing during our down time.
Many of our day-to-day activities involve props that further work to move us away from using our core muscles in a way that promotes health and athleticism. Examples include holding on to a banister when climbing stairs, leaning up against back rests in our desk chairs or car seats, or even toilet seats to support our derrieres! While all of these “mod-cons” seem to play a helping role in our lives, they also allow us to fall into poor movement patterns and cause us to depend on them. This dependence leads to poor habits and postural imbalances. And folks, this is not going to help us with unleashing our inner athlete.
So what now? You have to commute, you have to work at a desk, and heck, you like watching the latest episode of your favorite TV show from the couch.

- Once we know where you are at, we can begin to re-program your movement patterns, focussing on stability and core strength, primal movement patterns and then build athletic challenges in. We always work towards building your core prior to working on limb movement because, we know, once your spine is stabilized, your limb movements will be stronger and more efficient.
Nope, we aren’t just running on treadmills here people; we are training our clients at AOC to become athletes. Our belief that everyone has athletic potential within them fuels our desire to train everyone like a pro!
