Fueling the Fat Burn…The Truth (Part 1)
Ask an average person on the street how to boost their metabolism and burn fat and I’ll bet you five bucks I know what they’ll say: “You should go for a 45 minute jog or head to the gym and get an hour on the stationary bike.” Yep, the go-to solution that most will come up with is cardio, and lots of it.
There is still a pervasive belief that cardio is the golden path to fat loss. We want to share something different that challenges this very notion. It very well may change the way you’ve been approaching your fitness routines. The belief that aerobic training is the holy grail of fat loss may be the single biggest lie the fitness industry has ever told!
What’s the truth, then?
Let’s have a look at the most effective way to burn fat. Turn your eyes away from the cardio machines and have a look at the weights. Yes, strength training and fueling your metabolism go hand in hand, and boosting your metabolism is key to burning fat. Resistance training that is designed to grow muscle (or at the very least, maintain it) is one of the most important factors in an exercise program.
Most people don’t think stregth training is the key in burning fat, but we know it’s the truth – we’ve seen the results, in ourselves and in our clients.
There is a bit of background to understanding this equation.
The three pieces to this equation that we need to understand are:
- Metabolism and how it works
- Strength training and how it’s performed
- How what happens outside the gym and what you choose to eat affects this process
We’ll dive into these pieces more over the coming weeks so you can fully understand how interrelated metabolism, strength training and nutrition are in your goals for fat loss.
In the meantime, we’ll leave you with these things to think about.
When it comes to fat loss, here’s the big secret : Fat loss is a simple process BUT it does require hard work, discipline (both nutritionally and consistent activity) and a long term approach. Contrary to those late night infomercials, there are no quick fixes!
There is a reason why we educate our clients to get into the gym for 27 minute workouts, 5-6 times per week. Wanna know why?
Because that is the reality of how we get results.
